The Mumbai Indians’ (MI) owner, Nita Ambani, has responded to a fan’s request for Rohit Sharma to replace Hardik Pandya as the franchise captain in the middle of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
It happened on April 13, 2025 (Sunday), when Ambani visited the Shri Sai Baba Temple in Shirdi. Mumbai faced the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on the very same evening as they earned a sensational 12-run victory.

Hardik Pandya left the Mumbai franchise for the 2022 season and led the Gujarat Titans to the campaign in the very first season. He almost repeated the same feat in the following year against the Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

But two years later, the premier Indian all-rounder made his return to the five-time champions and straightaway replaced Rohit Sharma as the leader of the side ahead of the 2024 season. It resulted in backlash from the fans, with the 2020 winners earning just four wins in 14 outings to finish last on the points table.
Most of the fans want the Nagpur-born to be back in the leadership position as he has handled the side better than anyone in the past.
A video has gone viral on social media where a fan asked Mrs. Ambani to appoint Rohit Sharma back in the captaincy position for the 2025 season.
“Madam, Madam, Rohit ko captain karo, Rohit ko captain karo. (Madam, Madam, please make Rohit the captain, make Rohit the captain).” The fan requested.
Among the tight security of so many police personnel, Nita Ambani came out of the temple and heard the fan’s request. She was quick to reveal the Indian captain’s future for the franchise.
“Sab Baba ki marzi hey (Everything is Sai Baba’s wish).” Nita Ambati replied.

Rohit Sharma continues to struggle in IPL 2025
Rohit Sharma didn’t make a great start in the 18th edition of the tournament with a four-ball duck against the Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. He guided the length delivery from Khaleel Ahmed into the hands of the mid-onfielder.
In the very next game, he was undone by a brilliant delivery from Mohammed Siraj. Even in the 117-run chase against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, he returned with 13 runs in 12 balls.
Rohit Sharma doesn’t seem to be the same player who smacked a fine knock of 83 runs against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the UAE. After missing the clash against Lucknow with injury, he made 17 runs in nine balls.

Including the 18-run knock against Delhi, the 37-year-old has accumulated 56 runs in five innings at an average of 11.20 and a strike rate of 136.59. It would be really hard for the side to retain him for the next season if he continues to struggle in the same fashion.
Mumbai earns second victory of IPL 2025
Mumbai opened their account with a victory in the third fixture at home against the Kolkata Knight Riders before earning a sensational comeback win over Delhi by 12 runs. But at the seventh position, the future will be incredibly tough for the five-time title winners.
Rohit Sharma hopes to turn the tables with the bat in their very next game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 17 at the Wankhede Stadium.
