Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma was in the spotlight as experts Sanjay Bangar and others discussed their loss to RCB at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday, April 7.

On Monday, April 7, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Mumbai Indians by a thrilling 12-run margin at Wankhede Stadium.

The victory was their third in the IPL 2025 season. The Bengaluru-based club only lost one match, against the Gujarat Titans at the Chinnaswamy Stadium last week.

Mumbai Indians won the toss

RCB was asked to bat first by MI captain Hardik Pandya, who won the toss. Despite Phil Salt’s early wicket, Virat Kohli (67), Rajat Patidar (64), and Jitesh Sharma (40*) took RCB to 221/5 in 20 overs.

In response, Rohit Sharma got out for 17 runs, as did Ryan Rickelton. Will Jacks (22) and Suryakumar Yadav (28) set up the platform, while Tilak Varma (56) and Hardik Pandya (42) added 9 of 34 balls to bring MI back in the game.

However, Patidar’s clever use of his bowlers in death overs led to Krunal Pandya successfully defending 19 runs in the final over to give RCB a win by 12 runs.

Rohit Sharma blamed for Mumbai Indians' batting problems

After the match, Sanjay Bangar and Ambati Rayudu discussed and analysed where MI fell short in this match. They dissected the MI batting unit. Sanjay Bangar praised Hardik Pandya’s blinder and Tilak Varma’s knock.

However, he was critical of foreign players like Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton, who came into the IPL with big reputations but haven’t done much since.

“Hardik played an absolute blinder. If you take the blinder away, then the distance between the gap between both these teams would have been far, far more. So left too much, and I would say yes to an extent much was expected of Will Jacks. He has been a little bit of a downer, came with a big reputation but hasn't really lived up to it, so I agree with that that the top four certainly meant that didn't really turn up for the game,” Sanjay Bangar said on the ESPNCricinfo show.

Naman Dhir's demotion beyond comprehension

The anchor then talked about his Naman Dhir, who scored good 40s in the last two matches, but cannot bat up the order due to the presence of Rohit Sharma, Rickenbacker, and Will Jacks.

“Take that point with Naman Dhir, someone who got such a good 46 or whatever. You got 49 the other day in quick time. Adding At three and now because you've again got Rohit, Jack, Rickelton, you're putting the down at the end. They might actually be better off using Naman up top,” The anchor stated.

Ambati Rayudu voted for Naman Dhir to bat up at the no.. 3 spot and stated: “He has got a brilliant 40 just a couple of days back. Or can it be not good through budget three at Wankhede? This is quite surprising, and sometimes I can complicate things. I've seen that. So it and they also simplify things going forward into the season so hopefully, they do it soon.”
