Shubman Gil, the Gujarat Titans captain, remained unbeaten on 61 runs in 43 balls, shouldering on nine boundaries at a strike rate of over 140 to carry them over the line with seven wickets in hand against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.

With the win, the 2022 champions have gone up to the second position with three victories in four encounters at a net run rate of +1.031. On the other hand, the runners-up of the previous edition stayed at the bottom of the points table with just one win in four fixtures at a net run rate of -1.629.

At the end of the game, when the players were shaking hands, the camera found Shubman Gill managing a close relationship with Ishan Kishan, the wicketkeeper batter. Abhishek Sharma joined them, and Gill started to tease his childhood friend, perhaps, for the solitary over he bowled against the Titans.

Later, Abhishek was showing a few signals to Nitish Kumar Reddy towards the field position as Gill and Kishan left the field with a beaming smile on their face.

Just after the dismissal of Washington Sundar, Pat Cummins brought Abhishek into the 15th over of the innings. Sherfane Rutherford cleared his front leg and lifted the left-arm spinner over extra cover for a boundary before punching him for three successive fours,

The West Indies batter reached for the wide fourth ball and smacked it through the boundary rope for the same result. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s opening batter leaked 18 runs in his opening over without any wickets.

Shubman Gill carries the Gujarat Titans over the line with 61*

Gujarat started the 153-run chase cautiously as they played the first couple of overs without any risk. Shubman Gill smokes the first boundary of the chase against Mohammed Shami through short cover before losing both Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler.

In the third over of Mohammed Shami, the right-handed batter used his wrist to play the famous short-arm jab over the mid-on region before flicking the very next delivery wide of mid-wicket for the same desired result.

The little pressure that the Hyderabad bowlers created was blown away when Simarjeet Singh leaked 20 runs in his first and only over of the evening against Washington Sundar. Shubman Gill rocked back to cut Zeeshan Ansari for a perfect boundary through point and short third.

He creamed Pat Cummins for a beautiful drive through mid-off and extra cover for another boundary to celebrate his 21st half-century of the tournament. Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 61 runs to carry them to the seven-wicket victory.

Abhishek Sharma’s poor form continues

Abhishek Sharma came into the game under so much pressure with a string of low scores in the event so far. In the opening game at home, when most of the batters enjoyed the conditions to smash the big shots, he couldn’t capitalize on the advantage.

Abhishek looked a bit lazy in the third encounter against the Delhi Capitals in Vizag. The left-handed batter drilled four boundaries against the Gujarat Titans before Mohammed Siraj sent the southpaw back to the hut.

Finding a length ball, the Punjab-born went for the aerial route and lofted it towards the mid-on region where Rahul Tewatia, stationed at the position, took a comfortable catch as he ended with 18 runs in 16 balls.

It’s high time for Abhishek to score runs in the event, just like his partner in crime, Shubman Gill, has made it a habit for the Titans.
