India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has brought a light mood before the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. He reckoned that the players should look to offer something for the fans to leave the field with a bright smile.
The Blue Brigade, under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, has gone through an unbeaten run in another ICC campaign. That’s the third occasion in a row, as the side didn’t lose a single game during the entire group-stage clash in the ODI World Cup 2023 and the T20 World Cup 2024.

Some of the statements in the press conference or the presentation ceremonies from Pakistan’s captain, Mohammad Rizwan, have been doing the rounds on social media. And Suryakumar seemed to know a lion’s share of that.

During a discussion of his expectation from the Indian side for the Champions Trophy 2025 final against the Kiwis, Sky mentioned that the side would open to play the best game in the middle and hope for the best outcome.
“Just trying to play the best game on the ground and hope the best. Either we win, or we learn.” India’s T20I captain expressed this during a recent interaction on Sports Today.
He feels that with so many fans coming into the ground for the final, it would be important for the side to do something that the spectators could go back with a bright smile on their face.
“There are a lot of people who come to see you. Give them a reason to have a bright smile on their face. When they go back, whatever happens, you will, or you learn.” Suryakumar Yadav highlighted.

India’s undefeated run in Champions Trophy 2025
India had a great preparation against England at home in the three-match ODI series as they earned a clean sweep series victory over Jos Buttler-led side. They started the 2025 season of the Champions Trophy with the same flow and defeated Bangladesh in the opening encounter, thanks to the five-wicket haul from Mohammed Shami and an unbeaten century from Shubman Gill.
In the very next game, Virat Kohli’s fine unbeaten century helped them chase 242 against Pakistan, who, despite getting a great start with the bat, failed to capitalize. The century stand didn’t work for the defending champions before Khusdil Shah’s lone hand was a small contribution before India.
Varun Chakravarthy’s five-wicket haul cleared the message of Rohit opting for four spinners in the future, as he used the same formula during the first semifinal against Australia. They were near the mud before Shreyas Iyer and Kohli’s partnership gave them the platform. Hardik Pandya’s crazy knock of three sixes helped them get over the line.

In the past, India has slipped in crucial moments against New Zealand, but they can’t afford the same again in this final.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s potential retirement
With both Rohit and Kohli taking retirement from the T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup, many fans have started to speculate if the veteran would do the same in the 50-over format. The reports have claimed that the Nagpur-born may take the decision, but Kohli is likely to extend him till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Kohli is just 45 runs away from 746 runs in 16 innings at an average of 82.88 and a strike rate of 89.44, shouldering on six fifties and one century from becoming the leading run-getter in the ICC knockouts of the Champions Trophy.
