The Kolkata Knight Riders’ mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy, imitates Delhi Capitals’ batter KL Rahul’s ‘my ground celebration’ at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after they beat the Chennai Super Kings by a huge margin.

Chakravarthy, who is a part of the Tamil Nadu side in domestic cricket, used the opportunity to show his caliber to cage the Super Kings’ batters in the spin-web with magical figures of 2/22. He also got full support from Moeen Ali and Sunil Narine from the other end.

Varun has played all of his cricket at the Chepauk and understands the conditions better than many players. In a video posted by KKR on social media, the mystery spinner was seen to mimic Rahul’s celebration with a cheeky smile on his face.

Varun Chakravarthy pointed towards the ground and drew an imaginary circle with his hand. He suggested the ground as his home turf, exactly what KL Rahul did a day before at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium after carrying the Delhi Capitals home against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

The wicket-keeper batter smashed an unbeaten 93 runs in 53 balls, decorated with seven boundaries and six over boundaries. That knock was vital after Delhi lost four wickets early in the 161-run chase as the Bengaluru-born put up an unbeaten century stand for the fifth wicket with Tristan Stubbs.

After the victory, Rahul, unlike his character, looked quite animated. He thumped his chest and pointed towards the ground and jersey to indicate that the ground would belong to him.

This is a special place for me, and the celebration was from one of my favorite movies, Kantara. So, a tiny reminder that this ground, this turf, this place where I grew up, is mine.” Rahul expressed at the end of the game.

Chennai was struggling at 18/2 in five overs when Ajinkya Rahane threw the ball to Varun Chakravarthy for the last over of the powerplay. But he failed to make a good start with the ball. Vijay Shankar, his TN teammate, nailed the spinner for two successive boundaries to collect 13 runs in six balls.

But on his return, the 33-year-old sent back Vijay for 29 runs in 21 balls. The batter tried to manufacture a shot against a short-of-a-length delivery. He sat down and looked to sweep off the middle and found the deep backward square fielder, Moeen Ali, who grabbed it comfortably.

In his third over, Varun Chakravarthy got Deepak Hooda’s wicket for a four-ball duck. The batter went on the backfoot and flicked the ball at mid-wicket fielder Vaibhav Arora. Hooda didn’t try to keep the ball down and perished to put the side under tremendous pressure.

Chakravarthy finished with strong bowling figures of 2/22 in four overs. That was the second time he dismissed Hooda in two innings in two balls.

KKR blows away CSK with a heavy victory

Restricting the Super Kings to just 103 runs on the board, the only job for the KKR batters was to get the job done as quickly as possible. Sunil Narine’s 44 runs in 18 balls didn’t let the home bowlers make an impact as they chased down the score with eight wickets in hand and nearly 10 overs to spare.

Along with Varun Chakravarthy, Moeen and Narine also returned with a combined figure of 4/33 in eight overs, including a maiden, to break Chennai’s back.
