Despite not being the leader of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Virat Kohli is involved in the think tank. He is superbly active in the discussions.

The game against the Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru wasn’t different. RCB, before that, had lost three successive away fixtures and was in much need to turn the tables.

During the contest, Virat Kohli was fielding at the deep near the RCB dugout, where he was constantly connected with the head coach, Andy Flower, and their batting coach, Dinesh Karthik. They were giving him a few suggestions at his ears.

In the 13th over of the second inning, Virat Kohli realized that a ball change was due in the second inning. That meant with a dry ball, the spinners would start to get the purchase on the surface. So, all of a sudden, the left-arm spinner, Krunal Pandya, starts to bowl.

It was the former RCB captain who conveyed the information to Rajat Patidar, after which the left-arm spinner completed his third over. However, a funny incident took place between one of the overs.

Virat Kohli was fielding a long-on when Karthik and Flower approached him for a suggestion. Even though the Delhi batter heard the former Zimbabwe coach, he folded his hands, shrugged at Karthik, indicating a no, and refused to listen to the franchise’s mentor.

The suggestions are not clear to anyone. But, many fans on social media have come up with different advice. Fans feel that Karthik perhaps wanted their experienced batter to bowl a few overs, an idea which Kohli wasn’t keen to hear. This created a huge buzz on the social media platforms.

RCB earns first home victory of IPL 2025

Losing the toss, RCB got the chance to bat in the first inning. Phil Salt, despite nailing four boundaries, could add just four boundaries at a strike rate of 113.04. Virat Kohli put up a 95-run stand for the second wicket with Devdutt Padikkal (50 runs in 27 balls).

Tim David got a promotion in the department and nailed 23 runs in 15 balls, while the wicket-keeper batter, Jitesh Sharma, collected an unbeaten 20 runs in 10 balls, shouldering on four boundaries at a strike rate of 200.

Virat Kohli accumulated 70 runs in 42 balls at a strike rate of 166.67 as RCB finished on 205/5 in their allotted 20 overs. He is currently the second leading run-getter of the season with 392 runs in nine innings at an average of 65.33 and a strike rate of 144.11, having on five half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 73 runs.

But Rajasthan was well ahead of the chase in the powerplay with some clinical hitting, but they couldn’t make a difference in the death overs. Josh Hazlewood kept bowling at the tough line and length, asking the question, and made it tough for the batters to crack the shots.

RCB aims for the top two positions in the IPL 2025 points table

With six wins in nine group-stage encounters in the IPL 2025, RCB is in the third position in the points table. They have won all five of their away games this season.

Bengaluru will travel to the Arun Jaitley Stadium for their next contest against the Delhi Capitals on April 27, 2025. A win in that game will keep them so near to the top-two finish in the event.
