Virat Kohli became the joint Indian player with Rohit Sharma to celebrate four ICC titles as he has claimed the Champions Trophy 2025 beating New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The expectations were high on the blue brigade to deliver another successive ICC trophy after they claimed the T20 World Cup 2024, getting the better of South Africa in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). That was the side’s third title of the tournament after the last one came in 2013.

Kohli had a smile on his face as he was loving the white coat. He also played dandiya with the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, on the 22-yard, besides sharing close moments with the Indian captain. India chases New Zealand’s paltry score with four wickets in hand

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, lost the toss and found themselves bowling in the heat. Rachin Ravindra’s aggressive knock of 37 runs in 29 balls gave new fear to the blue brigade as the Kiwis reached 57 runs in less than eight overs. Varun Chakravarthy sent back Will Young.

Ravindra failed to read Kuldeep Yadav’s googly, while Daryl Mitchell’s 63 runs in 101 balls killed the entire momentum for the Blackcaps. Glenn Phillips tried hard for his 34 runs in 52 balls, but it was Michael Bracewell’s unbeaten knock of 53 runs in 40 deliveries at a strike rate of 132.50 that fired them to 251/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Both Kuldeep and Varun picked up two wickets each.

In the second innings, Rohit started aggressively, as he pulled Kyle Jamieson for a six on the second delivery. The 105-run opening stand in 18.4 overs laid the winning platform for the side, but they lost two quick wickets in the chase. Virat Kohli failed for one run in his two-ball stay.

Virat Kohli looked to guide Bracewell into the leg side but was trapped before the stumps. Rohit clubbed 76 runs, while Iyer gathered 48 runs in 62 deliveries. However, in the end, it was KL Rahul’s unbeaten 34 runs in 33 balls that carried them over the line with four wickets in hand and an over to spare.

But he marked a staggering comeback against Pakistan, as Kohli thumped an unbeaten 100 runs against Pakistan in the second encounter. Even against Australia in the first semifinal, when the side was struggling in the 264-run chase, he drilled 84 runs and nearly carried them over the line.

Virat Kohli finished the Champions Trophy 2025 as the fifth leading run-getter with 218 runs in five innings at an average of 54.50 and a strike rate of 82.88, thanks to one half-century and one century at the best core of 100*. He will hope to carry the same form in the upcoming few months as the focus shifts to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
