Watch- Water Leaks In Gaddafi Stadium's Washroom During Rain As PCB's arrangements exposed

The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has come in for some heavy criticism after videos went viral on social media, showing the washrooms in the Gaddafi Stadium leaking during rains in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 tournament.

The incident happened during the Australia v Afghanistan match in Lahore, which was abandoned due to rain. Puddles of water appeared all over the playing field at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore after just 30 minutes of rain, forcing the game to be called off.

The fans criticized the host country, Pakistan, for the quality of their recently refurbished stadiums after the rain forced the cancellation of the third group stage match. Rain started to pour in at around 8 PM IST on Friday, making it impossible for the players to play on the pitch in Lahore.

3 Champions Trophy matches sacrificed due to rain

Play was supposed to restart after a short break, but the game was canceled because the ground crew couldn't get the water out of multiple areas of the field.

According to a PTI report, the board nearly spent 18 billion Pakistani rupees in rebuilding stadium facilities in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, three of the venues in the tournament.

While the rain lasted close to half an hour, Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium came under the scanner for the multiple puddles forming across the ground and a lack of an efficient drainage system.

Not only was the draining system on the ground criticized, but several videos went viral on social media, that showed the rainwater seeping into the washrooms through the false ceiling. The main ceiling was leaking water, and it was like a waterfall in the stalls as well.

Pakistan’s terrible outing in the Champions Trophy

Pakistan failed to win a single game in ICC Champions Trophy, a tournament they hosted after 30 years. They lost to New Zealand in the opening game and then were defeated by India in Dubai in a one-sided contest. Their final group match against Bangladesh was washed out, giving them 1 point in the end.

With just one point from three games, Mohammad Rizwan's Pakistan finished last in Group A. India defeated them by six wickets and New Zealand by 60 runs. After similar group-stage eliminations in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup, this was their third straight early exit.

Pakistan will play New Zealand in a five-match Twenty20 International series starting in Christchurch on March 16. During the tour, they will also participate in a three-match ODI series. Aqib Javed, the temporary coach, must be replaced by a new head coach appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
