India’s left-handed opening batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal, was part of the recently concluded three-match ODI series against England. He was among the 15-member preliminary squad of the ICC Champions Trophy, where India will play all of their games at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
But the BCCI selectors ignored him in the final squad, as the mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy, replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal Jaiswal for the Champions Trophy 2025. That means the batter could have played Mumbai’s semifinal clash against Vidarbha in Nagpur from February 17.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was ruled out of Mumbai’s semifinal clash with ankle pain
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s presence would have been a huge relief for Mumbai, who has struggled at the top order in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. The southpaw has clubbed over 300 runs in the five-match Test series against Australia down under, at the best score of 161, shouldering on one century and one half-century.

The Uttar Pradesh-born will not take part in the action in Nagpur due to left ankle pain, as the Times of India (TOI) has reported. He will now travel to Bengaluru’s Centre of Excellence of the BCCI for further evaluation and treatment of his injury.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal has been ruled out of the Ranji Trophy semifinals clash as he is suffering from a left ankle pain. He fielded in Mumbai's practice session today at Nagpur but looked uncomfortable while batting in the nets. It is an old injury that has recurred. He has to leave for the BCCI's Centre of Excellence tomorrow to start his recovery process.” The TOI reported.
It would also be a blow for the national side, who kept Jaiswal as the non-traveling reserve. If one of Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, or Shubman Gill, starts struggling with an injury, Jaiswal could have been the best replacement in the Champions Trophy 2025.
The Mumbai side is unlikely to add anyone as they added Yashasvi Jaiswal as the 18th member of the squad for the semifinal encounter against Vidarbha. The 23-year-old has clubbed 1798 runs in 36 innings at an average of 52.88 and a strike rate of 65.66 for India in Tests, shouldering on 10 half-centuries and four centuries at the best score of unbeaten 214 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav fit for Mumbai semifinal clash.
Yashasvi Jaiswal missed a chunk of the red-ball season due to national commitment. His only fixture of the red-ball event came against Jammu and Kashmir at the BKC Sharad Pawar Academy, when he opened the batting with Rohit Sharma and returned with scores of 04 and 26 in the two innings.
The defending champions didn’t enjoy a smooth ride in the season. Ajinkya Rahane’s army scrapped through to the quarter-finals, where they once again found themselves in a spot of bother against Haryana at Eden Gardens.

The lower order bailed them out one more time. They are relieved with Suryakumar Yadav’s fitness. India’s T20I captain picked up an injury in the last clash but is fit for the Nagpur encounter. The right-handed batter made nine runs in the first innings, followed by 70 runs in 86 deliveries in the second innings, as they gained a 152-run victory.
