Yashasvi Jaiswal, Team India's opener, is ready to return to local cricket. He will play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 semifinals.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was chosen to India's preliminary team for the 2025 Champions Trophy but was left out of the final squad due to a last-minute alteration. He has now been designated as a non-traveling reserve and Yashasvi Jaiswal will only travel to Dubai if necessary.
Mumbai qualified for the Ranji Trophy semifinal
Earlier, Mumbai defeated Haryana by 152 runs in the third quarterfinal of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 at Eden Gardens to go to the semifinals. Mumbai batted first and scored 315 in the first innings, with key half-centuries from Shams Mulani (91) and Tanush Kotian (97).
Shams Mulani (two) and Tanush Kotian (two) were also among the wickets, with Shardul Thakur leading the way with a six-wicket haul as Mumbai bowled Haryana out for 301 to take a narrow first-innings lead.
In the second innings, skipper Ajinkya Rahane led from the front with his century (108), while important runs from Suryakumar Yadav (70), Siddesh Lad (43), and Shivam Dube (48) powered them to a total of 339, establishing a target of 354 runs for Haryana in the final innings of the match.
Royston Dias starred with a five-wicket haul, while Shardul (three) and Tanush (two) contributed as Haryana were bowled out for 201, giving Mumbai a resounding victory and a position in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 quarterfinals.
Yashasvi Jaiswal to play for Mumbai; Suryakumar Yadav doubtful
Despite being left out of India's ICC Champions Trophy squad as a "non-traveling reserve," opener Yashasvi Jaiswal will play for Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy semifinal against Vidarbha, a rematch of the Ranji Trophy final between the two teams at the Wankhede Stadium last season, which will be played in Nagpur from February 17-21.
"Today morning, Yashasvi Jaiswal confirmed to me that he's available for the Ranji Trophy semifinal against Vidarbha. I have accordingly informed the selectors about the same," Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Abhay Hadap told TOI.
According to a reliable source, India's T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav is doubtful for the game after injuring his wrist during Mumbai's quarterfinal match against Haryana at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The 34-year-old had scored 9 and an 86-ball 70, helping Mumbai to a 152-run victory over Haryana, but injured his wrist during the encounter.
Suryakumar Yadav's participation unclear
However, in the case of SKY, a source revealed that the flamboyant batsman's participation depends on the status of his wrist injury.
"The MCA's medical team is awaiting the results of his wrist's MRI scan," he said.
Jaiswal scored 4 and 26 in Mumbai's five-wicket defeat to Jammu & Kashmir at the MCA venue in BKC, his lone Ranji Trophy match this season.
"My message for Yashasvi is clear. His mere availability for the match is not enough. He has to perform well and help Mumbai win the game," asserted Mumbai chief selector Sanjay Patil.
