“I'm happy to see his progress since 2023 and the way he grew, scoring 100 in his Test debut and then later on with multiple records like two double-hundreds and scoring well in Australia. I think he has been a very good Test player, as well as many good performances in T20 cricket, and now he just got selected for the one-day team as well.” Jwala Singh expressed this during the same interaction.
The BCCI selectors made a few last-minute changes in the final squad for the eight-team tournament as Varun Chakravarthy replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal for the Champions Trophy.
The Uttar Pradesh-born debuted in the ODIs against the Jos Butler-led side and scored 15 runs in Nagpur but missed the last two fixtures in Cuttack and Ahmedabad.
“I think playing ODIs for India made him an all-format, but there's a learning curve for him. Whenever players fail, or don't perform, it's always time to rearrange your mind and body and rearrange your skills, upgrade your skills, and that helps in the future. So I'm sure that later on, Yashasvi Jaiswal will play well in ODIs as well.” Jwala Sing addressed.
Jwala Singh discloses Rohit Sharma’s words on Yashasvi Jaiswal
In his very first Test trip to Australia during the recent five-match series in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, Jaiswal countered the condition and home pacers brilliantly to score over 300 runs with a fine century in Perth.
“I think he was part of the Champions Trophy based on his performance against Australia in the Test series. I heard Rohit Sharma. on multiple occasions saying he is looking good, and so without playing ODIs, you can include him in the Champions Trophy, and that happened, but I'm not much aware of what happened or why his name was not featured.” The veteran explained.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s coach was happy to see the opener’s contribution with the bat down under but blamed India’s overall performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He reckoned that a century in Australia would make him a tough player in the future.

Many veteran players are getting near their end for the national side. That could push Jaiswal to a position of leading the side in the future, being an all-format player.

“I think the captaincy is something which is not in the player's hands. It depends on the selectors, coaches, and the people who make the decision. I think, as a player, you always try to play well and win the match for your country. That is the, you know, the basic goal for players.” He reckoned.
The Uttar Pradesh-born was supposed to play the semifinal Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash against Vidarbha, but his ankle injury ruled him out of action.
