Yuvraj Singh used to lock up Abhishek Sharma so that the young player could be trained, according to former India cricketer Yograj Singh. Abhishek's batting metamorphosis over the last 12 months or so has impressed everyone.

The youthful player has been participating in the IPL since 2018, but it wasn't until 2024 that he had a significant impact on the competition. In the IPL 2024, the southpaw had a breakout season and hasn't looked back.

He hit a record 42 sixes and hammered 484 runs at a strike-rate of above 204. He had not hit more than 13 sixes in an IPL season before that one.

Abhishek Sharma's cricket career has so far been significantly impacted by Yuvraj Singh. Videos of the young player being mentored by the former India batsman have occasionally circulated on social media. Additionally, Yuvraj Singh's father has made clear how rigorous he is as a coach.

Yograj disclosed in a recent interview that Yuvraj Singh was given to Abhishek Sharma after the child's father was unable to manage him. He claimed that Yuvraj chose to imprison Abhishek because he would spend his time going out to parties.

"Party in the evening, with a girlfriend. That’s what it was, right? So what happened then? Yuvi said, 'Lock him up. ' He was handed over to Yuvi because his father couldn’t handle him anymore, so he was locked up,” Yograj told News18.

He added that he overheard Yuvraj reprimanding Abhishek for failing to arrive at training on time. Yograj also recalled how Shubman Gill was similarly trained by Yuvraj. Yuvraj trained Abhishek and Gill while they were in his home during the COVID lockdown.

"The same thing happened with Shubman Gill, too. When Yuvi was coaching him at PCA, Yuvi used to tell me, 'Dad, you won’t interfere'," recalled Yograj.
