The Bombay High Court has ordered the family court to take the final decision on the divorce case between the premier Indian spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, and his wife, Dhanashree Verma. It was suggested to waive the cooling-off period of six months stipulated under section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act for a divorce case.
The decision from the court came because Chahal will be moving to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where he will feature for the Punjab Kings and won’t be available for the next two months. That is why the court has directed the family court to decide the divorce petition by tomorrow.

"As petitioner 1 is a participant of IPL, learned counsel informs that he may not be available from 21st March, the learned judge family court is requested to decide the petition by tomorrow.” Madhav expressed.
The high court eliminated the six-month cooling-off period for six months because both Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree were living away from each other for a long time. There was no compliance with the consent terms at the mediation between the two parties.

The last few months are not easy for the premier leg spinner, who lost his place in the national side after the 2023 T20I series against West Indies. But he is still one of the phenomenal bowlers in the two white-ball formats.
In the 72 ODIs, the spinner has collected 121 wickets at an average of 27.13 and a strike rate of nearly 31, thanks to a couple of five-wicket and five four-wicket hauls at the best bowling figure of 6/42 in an inning. The veteran has also collected 96 scalps in 79 T20I innings at an average of 25 and an economy rate of just over eight, thanks to one five-wicket haul and two four-wicket hauls.
Yuzvendra Chahal is also India’s leading wicket-taker in the shortest format, with the help of 364 scalps in 309 innings at an average of 23.42 and a strike rate of 18.3. His economy rate is just 7.64.
Chahal and Dhanashree, who got married in 2020, filed a divorce petition on February 05 before the family court denied the cooling period two weeks later.
“Thus it is clear that there is no impediment, in the facts and circumstances of the case in granting the applications. Accordingly, the impugned order dated 20th February is quashed and set aside, and the writ is allowed.” The High Court noted.
