The defending champions of IPL 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), have already been eliminated from this year’s T20 tournament. Their all-around performance has been poor in this edition, under Ajinkya Rahane, and some of their retained players haven’t come to the party.
KKR displayed trust and confidence in Venkatesh Iyer, spending a huge cheque, but the southpaw has not been able to turn the tables with his batting performance. Questions have been raised over the batting order of the franchise.
One of the reasons for the franchise to be successful in 2024 was the opening partnership between Phil Salt and Sunil Narine.
On most occasions, they would put a solid stand for the first wicket, which would lay the platform for the middle order batters to contribute more.

But this season, Quinton de Kock and Narine have not been able to bat well inside the first six overs, and the pressure has always been on their captain and the rest of the line-up.
Apart from Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, their pace bowling department has gone a bit cold, with few wickets in the powerplay.
Here are the 3 KKR players who will retire after IPL 2025
1. Quinton de Kock
The left-handed opening batter, Quinto de Kock, came into the season with much inspiration and confidence. However, his performance with the bat was not up to the mark.
Apart from the one game where he smashed an unbeaten 97 runs against the Rajasthan Royals to claim the victory, the rest of the edition has gone down.
De Kock has collected 143 runs in seven innings of the IPL 2025 for KKR at an average of 23.83 and a strike rate of 137.50, shouldering one half-century.
Even in the last season, he smashed 250 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 134.40, thanks to three fifties.
At the age of 32 years, he could retire from the league, having not been in form with the bat.
2. Moeen Ali
England’s spin all-rounder, Moeen Ali, is a veteran member of the IPL 2025 and the KKR side.
He was one of the aggressive batters to score 357 runs for the Chennai Super Kings when they won the title in 2021. But he couldn’t bat much in the top order for the Knight Riders.
Ali could face only 14 balls in this season and accumulated only five runs at a strike rate of 35.71. With the bat, he didn’t live up to the expectation with six wickets in five innings at an average of 22.66 and an economy rate of 8.50.
Moeen, at the age of 37 years old, could look to announce his retirement at the end of the IPL 2025.
3. Andre Russell
Andre Russell, the experienced West Indies all-rounder, has been a vital member of KKR for a long time. But his performance has gone down in the last few seasons.

In 2025, for KKR, the right-handed batter drilled just 167 runs in nine innings at an average of 20.87 and a strike rate of 165.34 with the best score of unbeaten 57 runs.
Even with the ball, he failed to contribute this season. The right-arm pacer picked up eight wickets in eight innings at an average of 22.87 and an economy rate of 11.31.
This has been an issue for the franchise in the last few years, and the Jamaican-born may look to end his T20 career after this IPL 2025.
