Rohit Sharma has delivered two ICC titles to India in the 50-over and the shortest format of the game. They ended up as the runners-up of the 2023 ODI World Cup before winning the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025 recently.
The Nagpur-born has retired from the shortest format of the game. Rohit Sharma is a very chilled guy who loves to enjoy the game on and off the field. There have been instances of his interaction with the players on the ground getting caught through the stump microphone or with the reporters in the press conference.
Here are the five instances when Rohit Sharma owned the press conference
1. Rohit Sharma’s reply on Rishabh Pant’s selection
The story is from the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2019 in England when Rishabh Pant walked into the middle at number four ahead of Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni. He was on the other end for the game against the Eoin Morgan-led side.

During the press conference, one of the reporters asked the Indian veteran whether he was shocked by the management’s decision to send the southpaw at four before the other aggressive batters. But Rohit handled it calmly and gave a savage reply.
“Not, because you all guys wanted Rishabh Pant to play, right? Right from India, you were asking Where is Rishabh Pant, Where is Rishabh Pant. There he is at no.4.” Sharma addressed.
2. Rohit Sharma sheds light on Shakib Al Hasan’s ban
During the same year, India faced Bangladesh. The premier all-rounder of the opponent side, Shakib Al Hasan, was banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after failing to report match-fixing approaches.
One of the reports asked Rohit about his response to the matter and his opinion. But Rohit had no excitement on the news and had a replay after getting irritated.
“I am not ICC.” The Indian opener informed.
3. Rohit Sharma criticizes reports on Indian pitches
During the 2021 home series against England, India managed to outplay the tourists with spin-friendly surfaces, where none of the visiting batters had a clue about facing the Indian spinners.
Some of the former players, Michael Vaughan and Mark Waugh, criticized the surfaces and called them a ‘minefield.’ In giving his opinion on the matter, Rohit owned the press conference straightaway.
The experienced batter gave the meaning of the home and away advantage and reckoned that people should tell the ICC to make a rule for the same surfaces everywhere.
“When we go out, other countries don’t think about us, so why should we think about others? This is what it means about the home and away advantage. Tell ICC to make a rule that pitches should be prepared the same everywhere.” Rohit added.
4. Rohit Sharma on helping Pakistan
Just after India defeated Pakistan in the group-stage clash, one of the reporters of the neighboring side asked Rohit if he would want to give any suggestions for Sarfaraz Ahmed’s batting side.
Rohit didn’t take much time to give a savage reply.

5. “Now you guys will write good things about me”- Rohit Sharma
During the 2019 home Test against South Africa, Rohit smashed a fine century in Vizag during the opening game. Coming into the game, he was under pressure to deliver with the bat.
“It was a great opportunity to bat at the top order. I wanted to use the chance fully. Otherwise, I know what you guys (reporters) would have done. Now, you will write good things about me.” Rohit concluded during the press conference.
