Given the current tensions following the sad tragedy in Pahalgam, there is conjecture that India and Pakistan may be assigned to different groups for ICC events in the future.

However, according to reports, neither the ICC nor the ACC has received a request from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Reports state that on Tuesday, April 22, about 28 tourists lost their lives and numerous others were hurt.

According to reports, the incident ranks among the bloodiest attacks in the area since 2019.

On social media, Indian cricket players Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, and Virat Kohli showed their solidarity.

BCCI to wait for government directive before deciding on India v Pakistan matches in ICC and ACC events

Rumor has claimed that the BCCI has asked to be excluded from Pakistan's group in the upcoming ICC competitions. The board has not taken any such action, according to Cricbuzz.

Vice-President Rajeev Shukla of the BCCI affirmed that the board will only carry out orders from the Indian government. Additionally, a senior official informed Cricbuzz that the ICC has not received any official correspondence on the subject.

At this point, there has been no formal decision, written request, or escalation, even if the board is still aware of the national opinion amid elevated emotions.

No big ACC or ICC events scheduled immediately

The Women's ODI World Cup 2025, which will take place in India from September to October, is the next significant ICC competition. Because the competition is round-robin, all teams compete against one another.

Although the BCCI will eventually need to choose a neutral location for its matches, no choice has been made as of yet. Pakistan has qualified for the tournament.

Although the final venue decision is still pending, Pakistan's matches are also scheduled to take place outside of India. Eight teams—India, Pakistan, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh—will compete in the tournament.

The Men's Asia Cup 2025 will be held before the Women's World Cup. The tournament is anticipated to be moved to a neutral site, and India will serve as the official host through the BCCI.

Asia Cup 2025 to be played at a neutral venue

The high-stakes competition between India and Pakistan is crucial to the Asia Cup's enormous $170 million broadcast rights agreement.

The two teams are expected to play each other at least twice and, if they meet in the championship game, perhaps a third time. Broadcasters and organizers consider certain matches to be commercially significant.

Tentative schedule in September 2025

In the group stage, it is unlikely that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will divide the bitter rivals. The 2023 competition, which used a hybrid structure, put India and Pakistan in the same group. In the league stage and the Super Four, they squared off twice, but the second match was rained off.

The 2025 edition is tentatively scheduled to take place in September at a neutral location, most likely Sri Lanka or Dubai. According to Cricbuzz, political unpredictability may cause the May group draw to be postponed. Depending on the state of ties between India and Pakistan, the ACC will choose the final groupings and location.
