In the prior schedule of IPL 2025, the final of the tournament was going to take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 25. The same venue also had the second qualifier in line to take place.
On May 20, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) planned to stage the first qualifier at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, which would host the eliminator on the following day.
However, with the suspension of the IPL 2025, the league will extend by at least by a week.
IPL 2025 is likely to restart on May 16 or 17
On May 08, Punjab Kings started their clash against the Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. The home side enjoyed their powerful batting with 122/1 on the board in 10.1 overs when one of the floodlight towers went off.

Slowly, the three other towers also went dark as the players left the field. Half an hour later, the BCCI suspended the IPL game due to security concerns as the chairman of the league requested the fans to leave the ground immediately. The teams, players, and support staff came to Delhi in a special train.
The recent reports of Sprots Tak have revealed that the restart of the 18th edition of the competition may take place on May 16 or 17, with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) locking horns with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. That has ruled out the chance to reschedule the game between Punjab and Delhi.
It is difficult for all ten franchises to get back their overseas players and their support staff once the league restarts. A few franchises have reached their home bases, while a few have started their practice.
IPL 2025 final shift to Narendra Modi Stadium due to inclement Kolkata weather
With the end of May, rain will arrive in Bengal, and there is a chance of a couple of showers and thunderstorms in Kolkata on the evening of May 30, the day when the BCCI has planned to host the event’s final.
That has given them food for thought to shift the final to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which will also offer them 30000 more spectators in the venue. However, the final decision will be taken depending on the logistics.
In a slightly changed schedule, they may alter the venues. The remainder of the IPL 2025 may take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
IPL teams connect with overseas players
Gujarat Titans’ practice session is an indicator of the resumption of the league. Kagiso Rabada and Sherfane Rutherford were part of the side along with Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj. However, Rabada may miss the playoffs of the event due to the upcoming WTC 2023-25 final against Australia.

Gerald Coetzee will be in the red-ball squad while GT, the table toppers at present of the IPL 2025, will miss Jos Buttler due to England’s series against the West Indies.
For RCB and MI, they won’t have Phil Salt, Will Jacks, and Jacob Bethell. Even Corbin Bosch is also expected to be unavailable for the Test final. Generally, a team won’t get a replacement in the season after 12 group matches, but in these new circumstances, the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council may look to tweak the rules.
