The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the suspension of IPL 2025. Speculations have started to grow on the potential window for the remaining games of season 18.

Even the last unfinished game between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) is expected to restart once the IPL resumes.

BCCI desires to finish IPL 2025 in May

After the end of India’s trip to England in June and July, the national side will make a potential trip to Bangladesh for the ODI and T20I series. In September, there is the Asia Cup, even though there is uncertainty around that. However, the BCCI’s people have pointed out a timeline before May to complete the IPL 2025.

“We have suspended the league for one week. We are not looking beyond that at this stage. And we are serious about it. Watch out for the next three days.” A high source revealed, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will come in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.” The BCCI stated the suspension of the league.

Questions arise on overseas players’ availability for the remainder of the IPL 2025

The BCCI is hopeful and confident of restarting the IPL 2025 in a week after the end of the border tensions. They may plan to complete the remaining 16 games within a tight 12-day window, with a focus on the ongoing month.

There might be a few more double headers to fast-track the event. However, if the tensions don’t ease soon, the situation could well be deemed a force majeure.

The most important part of the league’s remainder is the availability of the overseas players, many of whom are either departing soon or have already left the country. They would return if the league resumed within a week, but the BCCI has viewed the situation as a matter for the franchises to handle.

The BCCI is not looking at the August window for the league by cancelling the Bangladesh tour, because it will overlap with the Hundred. Nine England players are part of various squads. The league will run from August 05 to 31. Meanwhile, the September window will clash with the Caribbean Premier League, which is from August 14 to September 21.

The CPL is always prepared to connect to the BCCI upon their request and alter the dates. However, the board is not looking at the option at present.

“While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the Nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country. The BCCI remains firmly committed to supporting all efforts that safeguard India and will always align its decisions in the best interest of the nation.” The BCCI source was informed by Cricbuzz.
