Harshit Rana reached England with the India A squad for the two matches against England Lions and one against the India senior team. However, a report has stated that Rana has been asked to stay back after the India A assignments end, so that he can join the senior India Test team for the England Tests.
In preparation for the forthcoming series against the England Lions, Harshit Rana traveled to Kent with the initial group of players.
India A to face England Lions in two unofficial Tests
In preparation for the highly anticipated five-match Test series against England, which begins in Leeds on June 20, India A will play two unofficial Test matches against the England Lions and one four-day match against the senior Indian cricket side.
The St. Lawrence Ground in Canterbury will host the first unofficial Test match between India A and England Lions on Friday, May 30. The second and final match is set for June 6 at the County Ground in Northampton.
On June 13, India A and Team India will begin their four-day match at Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. Except those included in the Test squad for the five-match series against England, the India A team will head home following this tour match.
Harshit Rana asked to stay back in England for the Test series
Harshit will reportedly not, however, be going back to India on May 17 as originally scheduled. The gifted Indian bowler will instead play a few county games while remaining in England. To allow the Indian cricket team to retain Rana as a possible backup for the Test series, this decision was made.
The Indian selectors want Rana to remain in England even though he was not selected in the Test squad, since injuries and workload management are always factors in such lengthy Test series. This is to ensure that the national team has a fit and in-form option available in case of necessity.
“Harshit Rana won't go back to India on the 17th. He will play some county matches. This way India can keep their options open in case they need him for the Test series,” RevSportz claimed.
