The Mumbai Indians (MI) are currently in eighth position among the ten franchises in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They are arriving in the future fixture after two successive defeats against the Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Mumbai started the event with two consecutive defeats before opening the account against the Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets. But they will be confident going into the next fixture after they welcomed Jasprit Bumrah into the playing eleven.
The five-time champions will face the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 13, 2025.
IPL 2025: MI Playing XI vs DC- Match 29
Openers- Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton (wk)
Chasing 222 runs against any side on any ground was going to be a tough ask. And Mumbai’s recent issue with the opening stand has made it more difficult. Rohit Sharma, their former captain, smashed 17 runs in nine balls, while Ryan Rickelton clubbed 17 runs in 10 balls.

They lost both the opening batters for 38 runs on the board in the fourth over. Rohit has not looked to be the same player since getting into the franchise after the end of his India duties. It’s hard to tell that it’s the same player who just a few days ago smacked 87 runs against New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025.
It’s up to the management how long they want to stress the same opening partnership.
Middle order- Will Jacks, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya (c), Naman Dhir
Buying Will Jacks, there was a different joy and excitement among the Mumbai fans. But they have not got it right with the field position. The England batter, who tends to open, has struggled at number three. Naman Dhir, who is a top-order batter, is playing at number seven in the batting order.
During a 222-run chase, a team needs all of their main batters to fire. But Suryakumar Yadav’s slow knock of 28 runs in 26 balls didn’t help the home side. Tilak Verma, after getting retired out against Lucknow, had a point to prove. The southpaw clubbed 56 runs in 29 balls at a strike rate of 193.10, shouldering on four boundaries and as many sixes.
Hardik Pandya, the captain, drilled 42 runs in just 15 balls to keep them in the chase. But once they got out, it was just a matter of time for the final pin to come.
Bowlers- Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Vignesh Puttur (Impact)
Trent Boult, after being smashed for a four on the very first ball of the innings, replied aggressively with the wicket of Phil Salt on the very next ball. But at the end, he struggled with his planning in the middle overs and the death phase to return with figures of 2/57 in four overs.
Deepak Chahar hasn’t contributed with the wickets in the powerplay. As anticipated, in a 221-run innings, Jasprit Bumrah leaked just 29 runs in four overs, getting into the attack on the difficult occasions.

Mitchell Santner went for 40 runs in four overs without any success, while Hardik Pandya, after bowling three superb overs, gave away 45 runs in the four overs. He didn’t use Vignesh Puttur much in the game.
