The Mumbai Indians (MI) have gone through an irregular season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with just one victory in four group-stage encounters. They will be facing the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their next fixture on April 07 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The Hardik Pandya-led side started with two successive defeats against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) away from home before recording a sweet and strong victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at home.
But they lost to chase down 200 runs against the Lucknow Super Giants. Tilak Varma struggled with his 23-ball 25-run retired knock, but he was just one of the reasons for the loss. Going into the next fixture, the management will be tempted to win their second clash at any cost.

Openers- Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton (wk.)
Rohit Sharma, who hasn’t been the same batter since the final of the Champions Trophy when he scored 76 runs against New Zealand in Dubai, was absent from the previous game for the Mumbai Indians due to a knee injury that he picked up.
So far in the 2025 season, the Nagpur-born has struggled with form and rhythm to manage just 21 runs in three innings at an average of seven. Many expected him to stay till the end during the low-run chase against the Knight Riders.
Ryan Rickelton was excellent in that clash, and he would love to be back at the Wankhede Stadium after a powerful knock against Kolkata. But overall, it will be important for Mumbai to start on a high with a strong opening stand.

Middle order- Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, Naman Dhir, Hardik Pandya (c), Will Jacks/Robin Minz
Will Jacks hasn’t fired yet in the tournament so far in the first four clashes. The right-handed batter struggled with low scores in all four encounters. It’s important to back the players from the management, but they can look to bring in Robin to replace him on the side.
That also means Suryakumar Yadav can come at number three. During the last game, arriving at number four, he thumped 67 runs in 43 balls at a strike rate of 155.81, shouldering on nine boundaries and one six. Naman Dhir was excellent in keeping the side ahead in the powerplay with 46 runs in 24 balls at a strike rate of 191.67.
Robin can come at number five in the batting department, while the focus will be on Tilak Varma, who retired with 25 runs in 23 balls. He will be eager to make an impact in the game against RCB with powerful shots around the park.
Hardik Pandya, the captain of the side, will be more charged up after his inspiring performance of a five-wicket haul in the last game against Lucknow.
Bowlers- Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar/Recce Tropley, Ashwani Kumar, Trent Boult, Vignesh Puttur
Santner hasn’t bowled well in the IPL 2025 so far, and the Mumbai management can think of using Karn Sharma in this position. Deepak Chahar hasn’t also picked up wickets in the powerplay a lot, and that could push the selectors to go with the left-arm pacer. Reece Tropley.
Ashwani Kumar enjoyed four wickets in the last game at this venue and can look to extend the good work against Bengaluru. Vignesh Puttur will be an important member for the 7-15 overs and can ask a few questions to the Bengaluru players.
