KL Rahul Gives Delhi Capitals A Huge Setback; Ruled Out Of IPL 2025 Matches

KL Rahul, India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 winner, will be part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the upcoming IPL 2025. The 18^th season of the Indian Premier League will begin on March 22 and all the players will be resting for a while before joining their respective franchises ahead of the tournament.

KL recently competed in the Champions Trophy 2025, helping his team win the final against New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday. Rahul was chosen ahead of Pant in the playing XI throughout the competition, and he justified his selection with consistently strong performances.

KL was released by Lucknow Super Giants for IPL 2025 and purchased by DC for ₹14 crores during the auction, up from a basic price of ₹2 crores. He was DC's most costly purchase during the IPL 2025 auction.

KL Rahul to miss initial few matches for Delhi Capitals due to paternity leave

According to speculations, he is expecting his first child with his wife Athiya Shetty in the summer of 2025. They got married in 2023 and announced their first pregnancy on November 8, 2024. He would apparently miss one or two Delhi fixtures on the scheduled day.

Actor Athiya Shetty sent a heartfelt tribute to her husband, cricketer KL Rahul, who led the Indian cricket team to a historic victory at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday. Athiya, who made her acting debut in 2015 with Hero, has also appeared in films like Mubarakan and Motichoor Chaknachoor.

KL Rahul and Athiya Shetty married on January 23, 2023, in a modest wedding at Suniel Shetty's farmhouse in Khandala.

Delhi Capitals yet to name their captain for IPL 2025

KL Rahul was purchased for INR 14 crores by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 mega auction. According to speculations, Rahul is also set to take over as DC's captain after Rishabh Pant was discharged. LSG, Rahul's former team, has purchased Pant.

Apart from KL Rahul, Axar Patel is also in contention for the Delhi Capitals captaincy. He had captained DC in one game in IPL 2024 and has captained Gujarat in domestic T20 tournaments.

Delhi also signed Mitchell Starc (₹11.75 crores), T Natarajan (₹10.75 crores), Harry Brook (₹6.25 crores), Ashutosh Sharma (₹3.80 crores), and Faf du Plessis (₹2 crores).
