The Australian left-arm pace bowler Mitchell Starc praised KL Rahul’s contribution in the Champions Trophy 2025 for the Blue Brigade winning their second title of the tournament. He reckoned that whenever the national side was under pressure, Rahul would stand up as the crisis man.

KL Rahul kept wickets against four quality spinners of the Indian side, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, besides batting at the tough position of number six. During the crisis moment of chasing a total down, the wicket-keeper batter has always stood tall with truck-loaded runs.

KL Rahul’s contribution in the Champions Trophy 2025

The Bengaluru-born finished the 2025 edition of the eight-team tournament with 140 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 97.90, thanks to the best score of unbeaten 42 runs. In the opening clash of the tournament, he remained unbeaten and smashed a huge six to carry the side over the line against Bangladesh.

The Karnataka batter didn’t get a chance to bat in the second fixture against Pakistan and the last group-stage clash against New Zealand. But his biggest contribution in the event came during the first semifinal and the final of the event.

In the semifinal clash against Australia, Rahul belted unbeaten 42 runs in just 34 balls, thanks to two boundaries and as many sixes at a strike rate of 123.53 to carry them over the line. At one stage, they were struggling at 225/5 in the 43rd over when Virat Kohli got out, but KL Rahul’s partnership with Hardik Pandya changed the route of the game.

In the final, Rahul again smashed a fine and calm knock of 34 runs in 33 balls at a strike rate of 103.30, thanks to one boundary and one six as Ravindra Jadeja’s boundary through the square region carried them over the line with six wickets in hand.

Mitchell Starc calls KL Rahul Mr. Fixit for India

Starc has praised Rahul for his incredible contribution to the Indian side and revealed that the latter batted at number six, fielded, and batted in the middle order to play many vital roles for the national side.

“KL Rahul is like Mr. Fixit for India - He has opened the batting when asked to, batted at Number 6, Kept, fielded, batted in middle order -- he has done just about everything, he has played vital roles, excited to play alongside him.” Mitchell Starc addressed this during a recent interaction on the Fanatics TV's YouTube Channel.

Starc, himself, though, was no part of the Champions Trophy 2025 due to personal reasons as Australia missed many of their top players in the eight-team event.

KL Rahul to share IPL dressing room with Mitchell Starc

Both Starc and Rahul will play for the Delhi Capitals in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The former will join the side soon despite missing the Champions Trophy with injury.

Recent reports claimed that Rahul ignored the chances to be potentially the leader of the Delhi Capitals, as the franchise is now set to put the responsibility on the left-arm spin all-rounder, Axar Patel. Their first game of the tournament will be against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
