Just before their home fixture at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Delhi Capitals (DC) have received huge news regarding their opening batter, Faf du Plessis, who is likely to return from the long injury lay-off.

The former South African captain is out of the competition due to injury. He regretted fielding against Bengaluru in the first round of the event and felt that it triggered the depth of the injury. Due to his absence, Delhi faces the challenge of putting its best combination in the middle.

Jake Fraser-McGurk gives injury update on Faf du Plessis

The young Australian opening batter of DC, Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has been out of favor in the recent games, confirmed that Faf has been deemed fit and available to make a comeback after missing the last five contests due to injury.

“I think he’s available tomorrow, from my understanding. He should be available for selection, as I understand.” JFM expressed this in the pre-match press conference.

Du Plessis practiced with the entire team on the eve of the encounter and can open the inning against his former franchise. That will put Karun Nair at number three and wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul to number four.

Faf, who has made 81 runs in three innings so far in IPL 2025 with one fifty on his name, nailed 438 runs in 15 innings at an average of below 30 and a strike rate of 161.62, thanks to four fifties for RCB in the previous edition.

Jake Fraser-McGurk praises Axar Patel’s leadership qualities

The Victoria batter also offered vital insight into Axar Patel’s leadership. For the first time in his career, he is leading the DC side. He remarked that, over time, they have had to have a conversation about the Australians’ form.

“We were having dinner after a game, and he says, ‘You’ve got so many more opportunities, there’s going to be so many more times that you play for this franchise that you can succeed for us.’ The good thing is that we’re winning, and we’re winning well, and we’re winning in ways that we want to win.” Jake Fraser-McGurk addressed.

So what he says is, ‘Just keep smiling.’ He always says to keep smiling to everyone, not just me. He’s one of those guys where he’s so relaxed in all these situations it feels like you’re talking to one of your best friends instead of the captain. So he’s been awesome.” The youngster claimed.

He recalled the game against the Rajasthan Royals, during which the DC captain was so calm. Jake feels that Axar’s ability to understand the players always keeps him ahead in those situations.

“We saw during that Super Over a few games back. He was very relaxed and calm, like he’s done it a thousand times, but I’m not sure how many times he’s done it. We love playing under Akshar, and we think he’s one of the best players in our team that we can follow, and he can be a leader.” JFM concluded.

DC aims to finish among the top two in the IPL 2025 points table

DC started their IPL 2025 campaign with full dominance, winning four successive encounters at a net run rate of +0.657. But they slipped in the middle phase with two defeats in three fixtures, including one super-over victory against the Royals.

DC is, however, back on track with the eight-wicket victory against the Lucknow Super Giants. A win against RCB will keep them so close to the playoff race.
