According to Moeen Ali, when India launched missiles as part of Operation Sindoor, his parents were in the POK. Ali was among the players who skipped the rest of the 2025 Indian Premier League.

Ali's family is from Pakistan; at the time of Operation Sindoor, his parents were in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), while he was in India with his wife and children. According to Moeen Ali, he didn't anticipate a quick escalation. The English all-rounder wishes to leave the country for safety.

Ali's parents left POK on the same day that they were able to secure flights on the day of Operation Sindoor. Ali was relieved his folks were out of the predicament.

Ali’s parents managed to get the flights on the Operation Sindoor day, and they got out of POK on the same day. Ali was glad that his parents got out of the crisis.

“My parents were actually in Kashmir at the time… in Pakistan, only about an hour away from where the strikes happened, probably. Maybe a bit farther. So it was a bit crazy, and then they managed to get the only flights out, actually on that day. I was glad they got out, but it was crazy.

It was mad, obviously, there were those attacks in Kashmir before everything really kicked off. Then, within no time, things just rapidly escalated, and all of a sudden, we’re in the middle. It felt like we were in the middle of a war, but obviously we didn’t hear anything (like missiles striking).

All of a sudden, you’re just scrambling to get out of the country, and just to make sure obviously, your family’s fine. People are worried about you back home, and just to make sure they’re at ease as well,” Moeen Ali mentioned on the Beard before Wicket podcast.

Ali felt that he was in the middle of the war when the missiles struck.

Due to security concerns, the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals game was halted in the middle. Although some fans were concerned and believed that a conflict might break out, some people assured Moeen Ali that there would not be one because similar incidents had occurred in the past.

Because there was so much dishonesty at the time, it was difficult to trust anyone or the news, thus Ali blames the media and journalists.

“People weren’t quite sure what was happening and what things were like. I spoke to a lot of the guys. Some of the guys were like ‘there won’t be a war, everything will be fine. These things have happened before. ’ Some guys were like, ‘I think there’ll be a war, I think there’ll be some sort of retaliation or whatever you want to call it. ’

There’s so much lying going on that it’s hard to believe people, the news outlets in particular, and the journalists. You don’t know exactly what’s going on, so that’s the scary bit because you don’t know what’s exactly going on, you don’t know where to stand, you don’t know if things are going to kick off quickly,” Moeen Ali added.

Ali and his family were looked after by the KKR management. Ali stated that although KKR made every effort to assist him, he made no demands at the time.

Ali went on to say that he couldn't believe that Indians and Pakistanis are just separated by a border because they are the same people, share the same cuisine, and are similar in every way.
