Mumbai Indians (MI), has signed replacement players for Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch for the remainder of the IPL 2025 tournament.
England's squad for the white-ball series against the West Indies includes Will Jacks. Bosch and Rickelton, meanwhile, are part of South Africa's test team for the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final matchup with Australia.
IPL temporary replacement rules
Since the replacement players won't be available for retention in the IPL 2026, the IPL has established new regulations for temporary replacements.
After the IPL was suspended, many international players refused to return to their teams, leading to the temporary replacement term. For the remainder of the competition, the substitutes will be available.
"This decision is subject to the condition that the Temporary Replacement players will not be eligible for retention in the next season," the IPL statement read.
Mumbai Indians sign Jonny Bairstow, Charith Asalanka, and Richard Gleeson as replacements
In place of fellow Englishman Jacks, the five-time winners MI have acquired an English wicket-keeper batsman, Bairstow, for INR 5.25 crore for the playoffs alone. Rickelton will be replaced by Richard Gleeson, another English player, on Mumbai's team. For INR 1 crore, Gleeson will join Mumbai's team.
At a reserve price of INR 75 lakhs, Charith Asalanka, the captain of Sri Lanka's T20I team, would take Corbin Bosch's place. Despite not being sold in the super auction, Bairstow, Gleeson, and Asalanka will now have the chance to participate in the 2025 Indian Premier League.
While Gleeson played for the Chennai Super Kings the previous season, Asalanka will be making his IPL debut. Despite playing for the Punjab Kings the previous season, Bairstow did not fare well in the 2024 IPL. After the Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai will be his third franchise.

Mumbai Indians' playoff chances
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans have already earned a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs. There is currently just one playoff slot left.
The only two clubs still vying for the last berth are the Delhi Capitals and the Mumbai Indians. Mumbai has played Delhi and Punjab in their previous two games, and they currently have 14 points from 12 games.
With 13 points from 12 games, Delhi is ranked fifth in the standings. Delhi will play Mumbai and Punjab in their next two games.
The five-time champions will automatically advance to the playoffs if Mumbai wins their next two games; if they lose both, they will be ousted from the competition.
