The former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, has betrayed the Gujarat Titans’ (GT) leader, Shubman Gill, for their incredible success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign.

Ganguly reckons that the qualities of the franchise’s head coach, Ashish Nehra, are the reason behind them earning their success. Gujarat Titans are in the second position, with three victories in four group-stage encounters, with a net run rate of +1.031.

Gujarat Titans' IPL 2025 journey

The Gujarat Titans began the IPL 2025 tournament with a defeat against the Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Despite being ahead in the chase at a certain period of the second innings, Gujarat fell short of the target by 11 runs.

During the second encounter, they made a decent comeback at the same venue against the Mumbai Indians. During the first innings, they nailed 196/8, thanks to Sai Sudarshan’s tremendous knock of 63 runs in 41 balls at a strike rate of 153.66, shouldering on four boundaries and two sixes.

Prasidh Krishna’s superb bowling of 2/18 in four overs restricted Mumbai to a low score for the victory. In the third encounter, Gujarat Titans again came up with a fabulous bowling performance to keep the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a low score of 169/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, Jos Buttler’s fiery knock of 73 runs in 39 balls was enough for them to seal the victory with eight wickets in hand. They extended the winning momentum in the recent clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets, thanks to their captain staying unbeaten on 63 runs in 41 balls.

Sourav Ganguly credits Ashish Nehra for the Gujarat Titans’ tremendous IPL 2025

India’s former captain, Sourav Ganguly, feels that the 2022 champions, just like their maiden season, have used a lot of brain and approach to set up the game. He has credited the former bowler of the national side, Ashish Nehra, for the phenomenal performance.

“Like the way Gujarat has gone about their job in the IPL since the first season. There is a lot of cricket brain in their team setup and their approach. Ashish Nehra has shown his qualities as head coach with a tremendous sense.” Ganguly expressed this on his X handle (formerly known as Twitter).

Nehra has worked with both Hardik Pandya and Gill as the two captains of the franchise. The Delhi-born keeps the plans simple and goes with a normal but aggressive mindset in the tournament. Gujarat Titans have gone with a side that is not known for a lot of famous T20 players.

Apart from Jos Buttler or Rashid Khan in the playing eleven, not many are known to do wonders in the shortest format. But still, they used the resources pretty well to complete the job.

Gujarat Titans face a tough challenge in IPL 2025

All of the top three batters have contributed immensely to the Gujarat Titans. Sai Sudharsan is the leading run-getter of the season so far. With 191 runs in four innings at a strike rate of over 150, he has batted superbly. Buttler has cracked 166 runs at a strike rate of 167.67, while Gill is their third leading run-scorer with 146 runs at nearly 150.

Siraj is currently the leading wicket-taker with nine wickets in four innings at an economy rate of 7.75. GT will face Rajasthan Royals at home before taking on Lucknow Super Giants in their very first afternoon clash of the season at the Ekana Stadium.
