The former Indian spin all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin, has picked his side for the recently concluded Champions Trophy 2025 that India went on to win by beating New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Despite leading the side to a third title in the tournament and second successive ICC event, including the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States of America, Ravichandran Ashwin has ignored Rohit and wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul in the side.

Ravindra finishes as the leading run-getter of the season with 263 runs in four innings at an average of 65.75 and a strike rate of 106.47, shouldering on two centuries at the best score of 112. Duckett, among all the struggles for England, clubbed 227 runs in three innings at an average of 75.66 and a strike rate of 108.61, thanks to the best score of 165 against Australia in Lahore.

Kohli managed 218 runs in five innings at 54.50. At number four, Ravichandran Ashwin has gone with India’s silent hero, Shreyas Iyer, who was the second-highest run-getter of the event with 243 runs in five innings at 48.60. Josh Inglis will don the gloves in the side, having collected 131 runs in two innings.

David Miller, who managed a fantastic century against the Blackcaps in the losing affair during the semifinal, will walk at number six in the batting department. Azmatullah Omarzai, who is one of the four bowlers to celebrate a five-wicket in the tournament, has also got his place in Ashwin’s side.

Michael Bracewell is also in the team of Ravichandran Ashwin, alongside the two wrist spinners, Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav. The latter made a great impact in the final of the event with two wickets, while the late inclusion in the tournament, Chakravarthy, finished as the second-highest wicket-taker with nine wickets in three innings at an average of 15.11.

The only seamer in Ravichandran Ashwin’s team of the tournament is Matt Henry, who finishes at the top with ten scalps in four innings at 16.70.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made some changes in their team for the tournament, compared to what Ravichandran Ashwin picked. They kept Ibrahim Zadran as Ravindra’s opening partner. The Afghanistan opener was the sixth leading run-getter of the season with 216 runs in three innings, with the best score of 177 against England.

They have also gone with KL Rahul’s capabilities in the wicket-keeping department, besides replacing Miller with Glenn Phillips. Mitchell Santner is the leader of the side, while they left out Kuldeep Yadav and added Mohammed Shami to the side.

Shami didn’t have a great season but his nine wickets in five innings at an average of nearly 26 was enough to hold his place in the team. As the 12th man of the side, the world governing body kept Axar Patel, India’s left-arm spin all-rounder, who batted at number five.
