According to reports, Rohit Sharma's position as captain of Team India in Test matches is in question. The team management and selectors are going to make a huge decision with little over a month to go before the much-anticipated five-match Test series between England and India begins.

Many have questioned Rohit Sharma's spot in the Test team following his poor batting performance from the previous season.

India's home loss to New Zealand not taken lightly by BCCI

India was humiliated by a 3-0 home loss to New Zealand while he was captain. India had not lost a Test series at home since 2012–2013.

Additionally, India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since 2017 after losing a 3-1 series in Australia. Those two series losses also prevented Team India from making it to the WTC final for the first time.

According to the article, one of the Indian team's top players has already said that he wants to captain the Test team. However, the BCCI made it obvious that they wanted to develop young talent for the future and rejected the player's demand.

"A new WTC cycle is starting. Future and continuity have to be kept in mind as far as the team is concerned. Even coach Gautam Gambhir would want a set of players he is likely to work with for an extended period.

"There can't be any stop-gap solutions for such an important series. The last two Test series haven't been ideal for the team, and the England series is very crucial," a source told the Times of India.
