The IPL 2025 season is just a few days away, and all ten teams have started their preparations in full swing. Some of the franchises involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) will have the same captains as before, while a few franchises have decided to have new leaders for this edition.
Kolkata Knight Riders have made Ajinkya Rahane captain, Delhi Capitals named Axar Patel as captain, Royal Challengers Bengaluru chose Rajat Patidar to lead, Lucknow Super Giants have Rishabh Pant as their new captain and Punjab Kings have named Shreyas Iyer as their captain.
On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings have Ruturaj Gaikwad continuing from 2024 IPL, Hardik Pandya will lead Mumbai Indians, Pat Cummins is the only foreign captain, leading Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shubman Gill will continue captaining Gujarat Titans, and Rajasthan Royals have Sanju Samson as the captain.
Salaries of all the ten IPL captains in IPL 2025
Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has become the most expensive player in IPL history. After eight years with the Delhi Capitals, he will join the Lucknow Super Giants for the IPL 2025 season for a record fee of 27 crore.
Shreyas Iyer was selected as captain of the Punjab Kings to provide strong leadership for the IPL 2025 season. Punjab Kings bought him at auction for INR 26.75 crore. Shreyas Iyer has played 115 IPL games, 69 of them as captain.
Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain Chennai Super Kings for the second season of IPL 2025. Ruturaj Gaikwad was retained by CSK for INR 18 crores, and as captain, he won 7 matches and lost 7 in IPL 2024.
Sanju Samson will continue to captain the Rajasthan Royals in the fifth season of the IPL 2025. He received an increase in his IPL compensation to ₹18 crore through retention. Under his captaincy, the team won 31 games, lost 29, and tied once.
Pat Cummins is the lone foreign captain in IPL 2025, leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad side. Under his command, SRH advanced to the IPL 2024 final, and he was retained for INR 20.50 crores.
Shubman Gill will captain the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 and has been retained for INR 16.35 crore. Under his captaincy, the team won 5 games, lost 7, and tied twice.
Delhi Capitals to have new captain Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya to continue captaining MI
Axar Patel will be the next captain of the Delhi Capitals in the 2025 Indian Premier League. Axar, a vital member of the Delhi Capitals who contributes with both bat and ball, was acquired for ₹16.5 crore.
He has amassed 1,653 runs in 150 games, with 66 being his highest total. His strike rate is 130.88, and his average is 21.47. In the IPL, Axar Patel claimed 123 wickets.
Hardik Pandya will continue to lead the Mumbai Indians in the 2025 Indian Premier League following a disappointing 2024 campaign. The franchise paid INR 11 crores to retain him. The team has won 26 games and lost 19 under his captaincy, and no games have ended in a draw.
With Rajat Patidar as captain in the 2025 Indian Premier League, Royal Challengers Bengaluru is embarking on a new adventure. He has participated in 27 IPL games and scored 799 runs at an outstanding strike rate of 158.85 since being retained for INR 11 crores.
Ajinkya Rahane will be the new captain of the defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2025 Indian Premier League. In the blockbuster auction, the seasoned batter cost ₹1.5 crore to join the club. Ajinkya Rahane has participated in 185 IPL games, 25 of which he has captained. The team has won nine games and lost sixteen under his captaincy, and no games have ended in a draw.
