During Tuesday's game between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium, the right-handed batsman became the fastest batter to reach 5000 runs.

In their IPL 2025 matchup with the Delhi Capitals, the Super Giants got off to a great start until their batting meltdown.

With a 51-run powerplay and an 87-run partnership, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh gave LSG the lead early on. Markram was removed by Dushmantha Chameera after scoring the most with 52 off 33.

Marsh left LSG at 110/4 when Abdul Samad and Nicholas Pooran fell cheaply, and Marsh left for 45.

David Miller finished undefeated with 14 off 15, while Ayush Badoni contributed 36 off 21. In 20 overs, the team captained by Rishabh Pant scored 159/6. Delhi's standout batsman, Mukesh Kumar, took four wickets.

KL Rahul, Abishek Porel, and Axar Patel hammer the life out of DC bowlers

With 13 balls remaining and eight wickets taken, the Delhi Capitals finished their 160-run chase. KL Rahul and Abishek Porel held the innings together with a vital 69-run partnership after Karun Nair left early at 15 runs.

With 51 runs off 36 balls, the left-handed batsman recorded his first half-century of the 2025 campaign.

Rahul and Axar Patel formed a partnership during the run chase following Porel's dismissal. For the third wicket, the pair stitched an undefeated 56-run partnership.

Axar contributed 34* off 20 balls while Rahul scored 57 runs off 42 balls. While the other LSG bowlers found it difficult to establish themselves, Aiden Markram claimed two wickets.

KL Rahul demands that Kevin Pietersen give him the special medal for 5000 IPL runs

Following the game, the Delhi Capitals posted a video on X (previously Twitter) showing KL Rahul receiving a medal in honor of hitting the 5000 IPL run milestone.

“As someone said, there's only one number one, KL Rahul," Hemang Badani said in his support of Rahul during the event. Congrats on reaching 5000 IPL runs.

Rahul continued his lighthearted conversation with the former England batsman by replying that he would only accept the accolade from Kevin Pietersen.
