The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) started the IPL 2025 journey with a shocking one-wicket defeat against the Delhi Capitals. Ashutosh Sharma’s creaming knock shouldered the home side over the line in Vishakhapatnam. Despite picking up early wickets in the second innings, they couldn’t extend the pressure for a long time.
LSG, however, made a fantastic comeback in the second game. When most of the fans and pundits of the game predicted them to concede 300 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, they restricted them to under 200 and chased down the score with nearly four overs to spare, thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s fiery knock.

Openers- Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh
Mitchell Marsh, who is playing the tournament as a batter, started with a fine 72-run knock against the Capitals in Vizag, where he nailed his countryman Mitchell Starc for a few huge sixes and boundaries to earn the early momentum in the clash.

The all-rounder continued the same dominance in the fixture with a 52-run knock in 31 balls at a strike rate of 167.74, thanks to seven boundaries and two sixes. But the issue for LSG has been around Marsh’s opening partner. Aiden Markram.
The South African batter hasn’t been on fluent touch in the event so far, with two successive low scores. Against Sunrisers, he nailed Mohammed Shami straight into the hands of Pat Cummins and got back to the dressing room for one run in four balls. Because of the winning combination, he may play against the Punjab Kings, but the timing is running out.
Middle order- Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant (c & wk.), Ayush Badoni, David Miller, Abdul Samad
Nicholas Pooran is the reason behind LSG’s fantastic middle order. The left-handed Trinidad batter has nailed 145 runs so far in two innings of the IPL 2025 to be the leading run-getter of the edition. In the previous encounter against Hyderabad, he scored 70 runs in just 26 balls at a strike rate of 269.23.
Lucknow was overjoyed when they bought Rishabh Pant for a price of INR 27 crore, expecting to grab a huge advantage. But the Indian wicket-keeper batter hasn’t come to the party yet with the bat. However, his smartness with the leadership duties was one of the reasons behind them doing well in the SRH contest.
Ayush Badoni has also struggled in back-to-back games and will look to make an immediate impact for LSG in the upcoming fixture against Punjab. David Miller creamed vital runs against Delhi to carry them over the 200-run mark, while he also got full support from Abdul Samad’s unbeaten 22 runs in eight balls during the last game.
Bowlers- Shardul Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Dinesh Rathi, Prince Yadav (Impact)
Shardul Thakur came into the competition as a replacement for Mohsin Khan, and he grabbed the player of the match in his second innings against Sunrisers with magical figures of 4/34 in four overs. He used the new ball with perfection, besides changing the pace with the old ball in the death overs.
Avesh Khan didn’t enjoy a great return to the side but will be eager to contribute for LSG against the Kings. Prince Yadav was superb with figures of 1/29 in four overs on a ground, which helps the batters a lot. Ravi Bishnoi has gone for so many runs in the two games, but will hope to contain the middle overs going forward.
